Most common situations for photographers and filmmakers

  • An SD / microSD card does not open, asks to be formatted, and RAW/JPG photos are missing after a session.
  • A CFexpress / CFast card suddenly becomes unreadable or shows 0 files after offloading.
  • An external NVMe SSD with footage (Premiere / DaVinci projects) is no longer detected or reports 0 MB.
  • An HDD with films slows down, interrupts copying, or starts showing CRC / I/O errors.

What not to do

  • Do not record or copy more data to the same card or drive — this can overwrite deleted material.
  • Do not format the device and do not click “Repair” or “Initialize” in the system.
  • Do not run several recovery programs one after another — this often makes the condition worse.
  • Do not keep dragging files across if copying is already failing — first secure the device properly.
